Chell 01 - Video and Text

[Oh look. It's a new student. Who came right after graduation. Oops. But she fiddles around with the webcam, curious about the technology. Her face shows a mixture of wonder and apprehension, hidden behind the facade of a cold stare.

She fiddles with the device more and it switches off. She decides to communicate in text.]

Hello. I'm a new student here, though it seems the school year just ended.

Yes. And that blue thing.

[Though that's not what she meant when she said "I see," she'll go with it. And that blue thing worries her.]

[breaks_pots]

[Link laughed after Navi chimed, her blue glow going red for a few seconds as she bounced in the air. She settled down quickly, quietly fuming as she went back to circling Link's head.]

That's Navi. She's not a thing, she's my fairy.

Fairies don't exist.

[Still not convinced. Chell has been more brainwashed by science than she previously thought, it seems.]

[Link frowned and pointed at Navi.]

Navi's a fairy. She's real. You can meet her if you want.

I can see her fine from here.

[breaks_pots]

So you can see she's real!

[Problem solved.]

She's real but I doubt she's a fairy.

[breaks_pots]

[Navi turned red and bounced up and down rather violently while chiming like a soft bell. Link covered his ears as though she were yelling far louder - to his ears, she was. He frowned, pouting at the screen and gave Chell the best hurt glare he could on behalf of Navi.]

She is a fairy. She was sent to me by the Great Deku Tree to be my partner so I could finally be a real man of the Kokiri. She has wings and she glows and she's a fairy just like all the fairies in the Kokiri forest!

[testsubject1]

[Chell is, admittedly, pretty amused by this display. Since she's communicating through text, Link and Navi can't see it, but she smiles. She has no idea what this kid is prattling about, about Kokiri and forests and whatnot, but maybe it's better to let him live in his fantasy world with fairies and talking trees.]

All right.

[breaks_pots]

[The frown disappeared as if her words of acceptance made everything good again. Because they did. He looked up at Navi and spoke to her first.]

See, everything's fine. We just had to explain it, is all.

[Back to the screen.]

I'm Link. It's nice to meet you new student person.

[testsubject1]

[It was hard to deny that this boy was kind of adorable. Her simple words of "All right" made that frown disappear instantly.

But she still didn't like that blue thing. At all. She had her eye on it.]

Yes.

[Well it was technically a yes or no question...]

Chell.

Shell. Shell's a pretty name.

[testsubject1]

[It seemed like so long ago she had heard someone speak her name aloud. Even the mispronounced version. Back in the day when she was still an elementary student, she had had many a teacher call her "Shell" to the point where she expected it.

So this caused her to smile a little.]
