001 [ACTION/VIDEO]
Hey watch out it's a TWO-PART INTRODUCTION EXTRAVAGANZA
PART ONE: ACTION
[There is a new arrival on campus. She's wearing a red track jacket, carries a backpack, and looks thoroughly exhausted and/or like she hasn't showered in a month. When she finally makes it to the front gates she lets the backpack drop onto the ground and just
stands there
for a good long while
until she notices the lake.
Once she notices the lake, she scoops up the backpack again and makes a beeline for the water, peeling off her track jacket, practically jumping out of her shoes and socks, and wading in up to her knees, not caring about the clothes she's still wearing.
This graceful specimen of humanity then proceeds to spread her arms wide and belly flop her way right in. She spends the next hour or two splashing around, doing a few laps, and generally having the best damn time you've ever seen.
DARE YOU INTERRUPT??!?]
PART TWO: VIDEO
[SOMEONE seems to have forgotten to adjust the laptop's camera before she started recording. Viewers are briefly treated to the sight of a red sleeve in their view before it withdraws to reveal someone who really needs to cut back on the pep. You may have seen this girl flopping around in the lake--she appears to have cleaned up significantly since then.]
I'm here! I'm here! It took longer than I thought but I'm finally out!
[Out from where, Aoi?]
I actually got here a little while ago, but they wouldn't let me in. They told me I wasn't allowed to bring, um. What was it? Unsealed food through customs. I was detained by robots. Robots! Real ones! Can you believe that?
[She doesn't seem to be too broken up by her ordeal, at the very least, waving excitedly into the camera.]
It's been a while since I've been to school, but I didn't think there were robots, usually. Real ones. Is that normal here? [She tilts her head slightly and touches her index finger to her bottom lip, pondering.] I think I saw Justice Robo? But maybe they just had the same paint job.
Anyway! I came here with a friend! Or I was supposed to come here with a friend, but I got stuck, so I'm not sure if he's still here. If anyone knows Byakuya Togami--glasses, blonde hair, really snooty--you can't miss him. I owe him a punch in the face.
[And with a biiiiiiiig smile, she's off.]

Suddenly, he wasn't focusing on his previous embarrassment any longer. It was his guilt. Everything was painful, from the recurrent feelings that latched onto his heart to the pain throbbing angrily in his crotch to everything else stemming from a week of hell. She had a right to be furious with him. He had no idea what to say that could make things right again.
"My bad. I was tryin' to get back to my room," he answered distantly. "Got somethin' I could use to... y'know, cover up?" Heaven forbid this happen all over again. He didn't need the whole school getting intimate with his man bits.
i know i'm so ashamed
Aoi didn't hesitate in taking off her track jacket and presenting it to him. "It's probably a little small, but it's better than nothing."
Better than running around naked. She turned to allow him a little bit of privacy, biting her lip.
"I'm sorry," she mumbled after a moment. "I shouldn't have said those things. That wasn't fair."

"It's fine. I'll wash it."

With the shell-shocking pain he was in, he could already tell it was going to be a remarkable feat just to walk. Wary about flashing her a second time even though her back was turned, he began to tie it around his waist, keeping the jacket up in front so the worst of it was covered. He didn't want to hang around any longer than he had to like this. Using the banister as a support, he eased himself to his feet. "Thanks. I owe you big time." He paused again, wracking himself for more words to say. "This wasn't the way I wanted our reunion to be, but... it's nice. Seeing you again."

"Just bring it to my room when you're done. I'm in BW-16."
If anything came from all the revelations about Hope's Peak, it was the gnawing feeling in the pit of her stomach upon seeing her dead classmates again--the awareness of those missing two years. Where just a minute ago she was angry, now Aoi could only seem to muster confused and vaguely sad as she tried and failed to conjure up memories from that time.
The knowledge that at one point, she and Mondo had been friends (maybe not as close a friend as Sakura, but a friend all the same)--and that she just couldn't remember no matter how hard she tried, hurt most of all. It filled her with what ifs.
"I'm glad you're okay."
In all senses of the word.
"If it bruises or the swelling doesn't go down, promise me you'll go to the nurse, all right?"

TAKE 2: let's get real
But he couldn't refuse, especially to a girl as solemnly earnest as her in her feelings. And every promise he could keep, no matter how small, picked him back up in some way. "Yeah. I guess I'll have to do that if it comes to it..."
Her anger that frothed up at the get-go had boiled over and left her genuinely concerned for him. It was touching, and he could clearly see it, but he made no indication whatsoever. His acknowledgment would show up later when he'd bring her jacket back promptly, washed and folded and everything for her. It was awkward, but he began to circle around Aoi's position on the stairs sideways like a crab. Yeah, no, he was gonna be sore for a while.
so real
"Good," she nodded, trying to swallow down the overwhelming feelings that threatened to overwhelm her again.
"If I'm not in you can just hang it on the door handle, um."
It wasn't difficult to see that Mondo was looking for an escape route, and it seemed about time to let him do just that.
"I'll just...go."
