Give me Money. That's what I want.
For a guy who's birthday was coming up in less than a week, Slippy had been mopey for the last couple of days. His friend, Agitha had left the school and he pretty much had another rotten Valentine's Day thanks to Cupid Man's antics.
But that was just the tip of the iceberg for our froggy hero.
The Star Fox team was flat broke. Ever since the Lylat Wars ended a few years ago, there has been less need for mercenaries in the Lylat System. Finding work was always a struggle but normally they were able to find SOMETHING to bring in some cash. But for the past couple of months, the team had found themselves in big trouble. They had received zero job offers. It was almost as if crime had decided to take a long vacation.
To make matters worse, the Great Fox was falling apart more each day. Every time Slippy called his teammates, he always picked up the sound of a pipe bursting or watched a light flicker out in the background. Slippy kept asking if he was needed back to make repairs and was always rebuffed by Fox and Peppy who told him that everything was fine. Not that it matter whether Slippy returned or not, without money to purchase the necessary replacement parts, Slippy was unable to fix anything anyway.
To to it all off, they STILL owed Beltino a huge debt for the ship. Slippy had pleaded to his father several times for extensions and lower payments to which Beltino had granted at first, the team was reaching their limit in the favors department. Slippy, being a teacher's assistant was the only one with a steady job and that only covered his studies and living expenses at Smash Academy. Even with all the penny pinching: buying cheap Christmas and Valentines gifts, scouring through trashcans for spare parts, spending as little as possible on himself so he had something to send back but it was hardly enough.
And through this, Slippy smiled and told no one of his problems, not even to Krystal or the Fox that was attending Smash Academy too. Slippy didn't want to worry anyone and he definitely did not want to resort on depending on other people's handouts. He didn't want want to go back to his more childish behavior and ask people to bail him out of his problems. He wanted to solve his problems by himself.
Anyone know where I can find a good part-time job?

They're kinda hard to find - you thought about asking at a Mechanic in town or something? Guy like you who's skilled with that kinda thing'd have no problem getting a job workin' on regular cars, right?
no subject
That was what I was thinking but the problem is, if anyone them are offering jobs in the first place. If I can't find a mechanic's job, maybe I could try waiting tables some place. I've got experience being part of the school cafes and the host club.

Ships that go into space.
A guy who can understand how to make one of those things work properly really should be able to aim higher than figuring out who ordered the pie and who wanted waffles.

I'm talking about a part-time job. I'm not thinking about flipping hamburgers and serving coffee for the rest of my life.

[But when you're a mercenary like Slippy and don't get work much, you stop being picky and take whatever you can get.]

I'm a dang good mechanic and anybody would be lucky to have me workin' for them!

You're...you're Vinnie, right?

I thought that was just a buncha' junk someone left! Uh, d'ya want the computer I took back?

You're smart enough to start your own business building stuff. Why give in to low-paid part timer garbage?
no subject
But doesn't it take a lot of money and time to start a business?

I always preferred freelancing myself. All you need is your tools of the trade and some word of mouth advertising. Once you make a name for yourself as I have, the side jobs will keep on coming!

Sargasso could use a shitload of repairs right now, but Lombardi'll start shitting blood if he finds out you're there.
[No he's not a blob of purple he's still human]

Y'see, I need parts and supplies for my inventions. Yeah, that's it! Expensive stuff that the school doesn't provide.
Klug you derp.
...But I figured they would still give you things, schools that don't let you pursue in your studies is hardly what one can call a school.

No one told ME that!
