So, you know that new Floating Island, hovering around up there above the school? Yeah, that one. Some guy just jumped off of it. And sort of floated down to the ground in a slow, spiral glide. Now he's standing there, looking around.

You might recognize him. But he, unfortunately, probably won't recognize you. (Unless you're Sonic or Eggman.)

[There's a new video on the Network.

The first twenty five seconds of it are some kind of black, triangular nose on the end of a peachy colored snout. It moves around and the microphone stutters and wheezes and whoever this nose belongs to can be heard muttering something unintelligible.

Then, a violet eye stares into the feed, blinks several times with a big, red eyelid. Then he draws back so you can see his Echidna-ey face in its full glory.]

First off, I ain't wearing this uniform thing. I was hatched with fur. It's good enough for me, it should be good enough for you.

Uh... anyway. I'm Knuckles. Knuckles the Echidna.

Hmmm...

[He's sort of run out of things to say. He has questions, but he's not really used to talking to a computer. He's used to smashing them to gain extra lives and shields and stuff.]

Anyone know anythin' about the Floating Island above this school? It's kinda important. If you've got info on it, I'd like to know.

Never heard of it, sorry. As for Echidnas coming from there, I dunno about that. Least, they don't in my world.

It's OK. Seems like most people don't know much about it. I got dropped into this world up there, so I figure it must be sorta important.

Well, in my experience, giant floating islands that appear from nowhere are probably important!

Except... I actually don't have any experience with something like that at all.

In my own world, I live on a Floating Island. Then, I get dragged into this world and show up on another Floating Island. It's real weird.

You lived on a floating island back home, too? I didn't know those existed anywhere else!

Maybe that's why you ended up on the floating island here. For symmetry! [What.]

Mine's kinda a special case, even where I'm from.

It does! Especially if your island was special back home, and it's special here!

How very interesting. I wonder if this could give us a clue to why people are sucked here sometimes.

Maybe. I was sent here by the Master Emerald using a force called Chaos Control. Maybe the same thing has happened to others!

Well, "chaos" is definitely what we've been having around here! Hey, maybe that's what it is! You might be on to something.

[Who knew? The Chaos Emeralds had almost limitless power. Could they be the things dragging folks here from all over the multiverse? It was a possibility, so far as he was concerned.]

What kind of world do you come from?

Hmm, well, my world is pretty normal! I live in Los Angeles, California. Well, when I'm not here.

Los... Angeles. Huh. Never heard of it. My home is called Angel Island. Angeles sounds kinda like angel.

Mostly Humans where you're from?

Right! It means "the angels." Hey, we sort of have that in common! But L.A. isn't an island.

There's animals too, but they don't talk! Are there humans where you come from?

Not on my Island, but there's Humans on the surface world. I've been to their cities before - Station Square, mostly. The Human Military, G.U.N. sometimes calls on me to help them out when stuff happens they can't handle. Like alien invasions or robot armies or whatever.
