Alright, everyone! There has been a lot of talk about statues beneath the school and this recent infestation, so listen to this! I believe the two are connected!

After that small earthquake the other week, Hajime Tanaka and I both fell into underground caverns, and we saw those same strange bugs bring a statue to life! It attacked us, but we made it out in one piece! But now the bugs are up here... they seem harmless on their own, but don't let your guard down!

There you have it. Is that information useful to anybody at all?

[Useful for making it clear who pissed the bugs off enough for them to come to the surface, maybe.]

That's right! In their regular form, it doesn't look like they can do anything like that, or we'd surely know about it by now!

Precisely my thought. However... even if they have that sort of ability, it remains that they haven't taken full advantage of it yet. Even after being attacked, the statues remain untouched save what you witnessed. Perhaps there is a reason.

You're right... What the heck?! Tanaka and I didn't do anything to provoke them down there, but if people are attacking them up here, they should actually have reason to turn into the statues! I mean, we should be thankful that they aren't, but... This doesn't make any sense!

What are those things?!

It's possible they are as unpredictable as they seem. That warrants more vigilance. They have the means of attack, and we know this now. We should be prepared.

Could you... recognize the statue they attacked you with?

It was nobody I knew... But I can describe him! He was short and overweight and had a mustache greater than any I've ever seen!

[He's from Japan though, so...]

That's all I could make out in the dark. [Also, he was more preoccupied with running away.]

--Ah! I wonder... They're hiding in dark places even up here, aren't they? Maybe the reason they won't fight us is because they're weak in bright places! But why come up here at all, then?

That's more reason to be suspicious. If they dislike light, they must have an objective to fulfill.

Nobody has made any indication of knowing why.

[Without any information on the shadow bugs, it's hard to say what they're capable of. He's not one to underestimate something he doesn't understand. He breathes out steadily.]

It would be wise to observe their movements, behaviors, weaknesses... In case they are more harmful than they seem. Intelligence on them... could give us an understanding of their motives.
