[ Good morning, Smash Academy! Today you might see a half shoeless young boy frantically running down the hallways after...a small and quick blur that looks suspiciously like a black cat. ~~Yup, that's right. He will never get a cool entrance. Ever.~~ He'll be doing his best to not run into anyone, but he can't say the same for the pursued, who's running every which way in order to avoid getting caught. Apparently he or she has really taken a liking to that shoe! Or just wants the boy to play tag. Who knows? He sure doesn't.

Maybe, just maybe though, he'll catch up to the cat and get his missing shoe back mostly intact. Or he can just give up on—hahaha, no, he won't. After all, he doesn't exactly have a spare available to use instead!

So what will you do? Help a dude in distress out? Laugh at him? Set traps for fun? ...Help the cat instead? Your choice! Either way, he can be found running about anywhere around the school while the looooooong chase is still on. Occasionally, you might hear him pleading for the cat to "Please give it back already!"

[ Better to be safe than sorry. He can't know how safe this place is from the mastermind's supporters until he pokes around a bit more. Plus, he'd never hear the end of it from everyone (hi, Kirigiri and Togami) if he blabbed something in public he shouldn't have. ]

[His face, which had just erupted into a good-natured grin, fell again when he glanced down at the state of Naegi's footwear.]

Uh... You gonna be okay walking like that? Hang on. [Where shoe go?? He's ducking to check under the bench and everything. It wasn't anywhere as far as he could tell.] Shit, Naegi! Why'd you throw a fucking shoe at me in the first place? You could've just called me over y'know.

[ Honestly, he felt worried about not finding the dorms yet, so this turned out to be a lucky opportunity!

As for the shoe... Naegi's expression turns sheepish as he tries to explain the mystery of the flying shoe. But hey, at least he didn't send him flying into unconsciousness again! That's always a good thing. ]

I wasn't throwing it! A cat stole my shoe and then jumped towards you, sending the shoe flying...

[ Alas, his balance of luck's always precarious. ]

Really? A cat did that?

[He twisted back around to check for any feline signs. Or shoes, for that matter. Nope. Not even in the trees. HOW STRANGE...]

Must've run off by now. What the hell would a cat want with a shoe? Anyway... We'll get it back later! We have important things to discuss.

[He starts moving for the dormitories. You with him, Naegi?]

[ Naegi nodded a bit glumly in response. For some reason, the cat loved to pick on him at first sight. ]

Probably did... But I can just leave finding them for later.

[ Like Oowada said, this discussion's far more important. So he'll just follow as fast as he can without accidentally tripping. Powerwalking and running's so much harder with only only shoe.

...In hindsight, maybe he should've just taken the other one off too. ]

[Mondo noticed Naegi's struggle after they moved across the lawn a ways and decided that maybe he should help a bro out.]

[ He then reached down and quickly pullled off his other shoe. ]

[Oh, good! He didn't force him into an awkward piggyback situation. Thank your lucky stars, SHSL Good Luck. Anyway, it's not too long before they reach the dorms and make the ascent up the stairs and into BE-15. Mondo made sure to point out the dorm next to it - that's Naegi's. He guides him to his own room and closes the door behind them.

One side of the room looks miserably unfurnished. The other... resembles something very much like this. Pie charts and all.]

[ Yes, he's quite grateful that turn of events was averted without a fuss, and that he now knew the location of his dorm room. Always a good thing to learn.

While Naegi can't help but take in the surroundings when they enter, he quickly stopped himself when Oowada asked that question again. Instead, while putting a finger in front of his mouth in a silent reminder to keep the volume down, Naegi started yet another exposition talk.

In truth, he felt reluctant to start off this conversation answering that question, but he knew Oowada would just keep asking if he tried to start elsewhere, so best to get that out of the way first. ]

The mastermind...The one who controlled Monobear this entire time is the actual Junko Enoshima. She stayed in the topmost floors of the school the entire time.

[It's quite obvious he's having immediate difficulty absorbing that dab of information. It's like expecting one square of Bounty paper towel to suck in a lake.]

You've gotta be lying! THAT girl?! There's no fucking way it was her... She was killed right from the start! We all saw it happen!

[ Naegi can't say he's fazed much by that reaction. Hard to once he's seen it before, no? So he just continued to explain the details as calmly as possible. ]

I'm not lying. The Junko Enoshima we saw killed... She's actually her older twin sister. They switched places even before the game started.

[HOOOOOOLY SHIT]

[He makes some kind of strangled grunt, like that puzzling piece of information hit him physically.] ...So there's two Enoshimas?! And that one was... a fake? Fuck, I can't believe this! ~~No one expects twins!~~

[It's all swirling around in his head- he seriously did not expect someone like Junko. Well... "Junko". That was hardly a possibility in his mind, or at least one he could take seriously. Furthermore, it upset him that she was a girl, conflicting his intense desire to personally sock it to the mastermind for everything they did. And the whole twin thing was really creepy. Wait, if that Junko was a twin, and the other twin was the mastermind, then that meant...]

She'd even kill her older sister in such a cruel way... Going that far... How can someone like that be called human?

Yeah... I'd have a hard time believing it too if I didn't see the evidence for myself. But the corpse's measurements match up to the older sister's profile and even had her distinguishing mark.

[ But like someone said, "When you eliminate all other possibilities, what remains, no matter how improbable, is the answer". ]

As for the mastermind's goal... Enoshima wanted to see all of us despair. Including her sister. ...Or maybe "especially her sister"?

[ Yes, that's right, no honorifics from Naegi here. Gaaaaasp. ]

—No, never mind, I'm not sure about that. I don't understand her mindset at all. All I know is that her goal as Super High School Level Despair is to push us all into the depths of despair and prove to the world that hope would lose.

Damn it! All that death and killing for something as small as that?! How's trapping a bunch of high school students in a school gonna prove anything about despair? All it proves is how twisted and fucking sick she is...

[They may be at a different school entirely - plane of existence, dimension, country, didn't matter; it felt different- but their life full of murder and suffering still feels very real, almost like they could be swallowed up by that depressing place right this minute, all over again. It only happened a little over a week ago for Mondo. It's no wonder he seems so distraught.]

[ Twisted is a understatement... He doubts he'd ever meet someone quite as insane and obsessed with despair as her again in his life. ~~And then Lady Luck takes that as a challenge.~~ ]

Well, she wanted to make an example of Hope's Peak students, who are said to be hope for the future. I think it's safe to say she wanted to make the world more chaotic than it already is after that one incident...

[ Oh, right. Context. Time to tack on something important to that! ]

I'm not entirely sure of the fine details...but to keep it short, many people fell into despair. Out of despair, they started to destroy the environment and each other all over the world.

To keep us safe from that, the headmaster asked us to agree to stay in the school for the rest of our lives in needed. In exchange, he'd make sure we'd have everything we need to stay inside, but...

[ The next thought brings up a certain "present" to mind, causing him to wince and look away. ]

Enoshima killed him.

[Panic begins to settle in. It sparked when he heard of the outside world, and was fed further by details of their circumstance that didn't add up to his own experience.]

Hold it! I don't remember agreeing to any of that shit! I'd never lock myself up in a gloomy place like that...!

[ Since when did this become a courtroom? ]

That's because our memories have been messed around with. We've...actually been classmates for a couple of years now.

[HE LOOKS HORRIFIED. You thought he flipped his lid when he heard about the twin switch? That was child's play compared to what he's hearing now.]

[The fear of this truth keeps grinding inside his chest, but curiosity gnaws in the same spot. He's entered a weird paradox where he's fiercely denying what he suspects is actually the grim reality Naegi's telling him. He can't answer for a moment, tearing his eyes away from him and staring intently to the side somewhere.]

How am I supposed to know it's not some... faked photo? Like those damn videos Monobear showed us. [Enoshima, fuck, whoever.]
