smashacademy | chapter 5

[Oh, a video of everyone's favorite hyperactive, idiot trainer boy. But something clearly isn't right. His cheeks are tear-stained, there's a bright streak of blood across his forehead, and most disturbingly, his hat is missing. Something clearly is not right.]

There's something everyone needs to know! I'll tell you what happened, alright?

This afternoon, I took my Jumpluff out to go train in the forest near the school. While we were out there, I found something really, really disturbing. If you're sensitive to stuff usually, you might wanna not listen...

[Gold leans in towards the camera with wide eyes.]

I FOUND A DEAD BODY.

That's right! I really did. Deep in the heart of the forest, just leaning up against a tree. He had a big... gash in his stomach and he had bled so much. I didn't know he was dead or if he was just unconscious and I don't know how to check. My Pokemon and I, we carried him into the city and to the hospital.

[He starts tearing up a little bit.]

It's sad... I started thinking about if he had a family or who was gonna miss him now. They told me that someone probably killed him and he was probably... that he had probably been dead for a couple of days. [Deep breath.] I'm really freaked out. I just want everyone to know SOMEONE DANGEROUS IS OUT THERE!

[KNOCK KNOCK god why is he even knocking. Green says "SCREW THE RULES" and opens the door.]

Gold.

[Whoops, Gold whips his swivel chair around so fast he nearly falls off. He recovers and stands up to greet his visitor.]

Green...

[He sort of just stands there, really unsure of what to do. His hands linger in the air.]

Uh... Jeez, why are you even still on the computer? Give yourself a friggin' break!

People were asking questions, I dunno.

[Gold is looking pretty clueless, too. He wipes his forehead, wiping some of the blood away.]

[Oh, good. He finally found something to do with those hands.]

Wait-- let me help you. Don't touch anything.

[He vanishes out of Gold's room, returning surprisingly fast with wet paper towels. He hands them to the boy, brow furrowed.]

[Gold stands completely still, waiting for Green to come back. Once the older trainer returned, he grabbed the paper towels and nervously wiped his forehead with them. Then the rest of his face...

No more blood here. He looks back at Green.]

[Green watches the boy wipe off his face, bringing his own hand up to his shoulder, rubbing it self consciously. He doesn't say anything for a few moments, though he nods in response to Gold's thanks.]

So... what's up? Whaddya need, now?

[It's really said with no trace of annoyance, Green is actually pretty shocked that Gold hasn't cried again.]

[Gold wrings his hands, starting to look really upset again.]

Could you... just sit with me for a while? Jon's out and I don't want to be by myself.

Yeah, of course.

[Green moves to sit on Gold's bed, gently guiding the other trainer to sit down next to him. Since the hand is already there, he lets it linger across Gold's shoulders, comfortingly.]

Thanks.

[Gold moves with Green and settles himself next to the other trainer. Not sure of Green's boundaries, Gold slowly leans on the other and let's out a heavy sigh before starting to cry again.]

[Yeahhh, he was kind of expecting that to happen. Just this once, Green lets the kid lean into him, tightening his grip on Gold's shoulders in a sort of half hug.]

Ah... it's okay. Let it out, you've done enough today.

[Gold nods weakly, sniffles, and cries a bit more. He feels a little bad for making the older trainer sit with him, but he figures otherwise he would be feeling a lot worse right now.

After a minute or two, he's run out of tears. Instead, he breathes heavily, trying to calm down again. Half hugs are certainly comforting.]

[Even as Gold winds down, Green doesn't shy from the contact. Instead, he indicates the other trainer's head.]

Where's your hat?

Ah...

[He ruffles his own hair nervously.]

I forgot it at the hospital. I'll go pick it up later, I guess.
