[002N :: Video]

[Camera feed comes in at rather awkward moments sometimes. In this case, it's while Nabooru's in the midst of stifling a yawn.

She slouches over and stares at her camera, seemingly unamused - or something like it.]

Hello kids, cranky old men, potential dancers, and cohorts.

Are you all having a good time? I had a blind date with that Edward guy, and he doesn't seem so bad. He was pretty nice actually. How many of you got stuck with people you hated?

[She pauses to cover her mouth with her right hand and a few moments later withdraws it.]

Hold that thought.
Any of you know of good sleep remedies?

[If anyone says 'a good lay' or its equivalent, she's going to punch them in the face.]

Well. I... kind of do, yes.

[She pauses thoughtfully.]

I guess I should probably start from the beginning... You can't say anything, got it? You have to keep it between us only.

Since when has that been an issue? You know I ain't gonna breathe a word to no-one. Cross my heart and hope to die.

I'm just saying. It's a complicated situation.

[She gestures awkwardly with her free hand. You know, the one that's not propping her up.]

So Shinon comes back, right? I bring him his dodongo. And uh. There's this kiss. Kind of the exciting kiss. It was a good kiss.

And then... there's this other guy, you know? The martial arts instructor...

I know Professor Byrne, yeah. Hmm.. that IS quite a situation.

[Hey. He could empathise. It's not like he hasn't had his brushes with having feelings for more than one person at once. He's not judging her in the slightest.]

So, you're apologising to... which one, now? Byrne or Shinon?

[Oh. Well.]

Uh. Byrne.

[She flops over onto her back and shifts her hands to rest beneath her neck.]

With Byrne, the first time I met him it was an instant like. I see a lot of myself in him. Or at least a me that I've lost touch with. The academy has changed me a lot, so maybe he's more like the me I used to be.

But he's strong and prideful. I don't know what happened, but he's a very tense guy. Intense, too. I've been trying to get him to open up a little and I was doing okay there for a while. He thought he'd been a little unfair to me, so he took me out to this real nice place for dinner, right?

[Her right hand rises and plays with the corresponding earring.]

So we were on the way back... And I don't quite know how it happened, but he kissed me. That one was entirely different. He... He apologised, and mind you, I didn't mind. But it wasn't something I initiated, for once. But he's...

He said, "You've had your fun. Now, goodbye." I haven't talked to him since. It's driving me kind of crazy on top of everything else going on in my head. I want to fix things, but I don't know how to.

Wait, wait - He kisses YOU, then tells you that You've had your fun and then he and you part ways and YOU feel like YOU should apologise!?

[He does not. Quite get this.]

Look, before you go apologizin' to this guy, it sounds like he has some things to work through. I understand being strong and prideful - I get it. You know I do. But that sounds more like headgames than anything.

[She shakes her head.]

No. It's not like that. It had been a really tense night for both of us. You know he's from Hyrule, right? But he's not a Hylian, he says. I don't know what he is. And when he told me the desert had been flooded, I got this obsession to understand everything he knows.

So I guess I've been prying. And you know how I act. I like getting a rise out of people and I know he doesn't like it, and I do it anyway, because it's an affectionate thing. I do it to people I like. With some exceptions.

[She shrugs.]

I just can't figure him out, but I don't want him to be angry with me. So I want to get him something. What should I get him? I thought about giving him something that's valuable to me. That way he knows I'm sincere.

Wait, the Desert has been flooded!? You mean the Gerudo Desert? Is everyone there OK!?

[Then again, this place had a habit of drawing people in from different timelines - this could all be happening in a hundred years, or it could have happened four thousand years ago. And he was sure she MIIIIGHT have mentioned something if her people were in trouble - they were allies in that regard, after all.]

It's not prying if it's about your homeland and if he was any kinda Guy he'd just tell you what he knows. And I love how you get reactions from folks - it's funny. Some people don't have a sense of humor though, I guess. Hmm.

As for giving him something valuable to you to show you're sincere, I can understand that. A gift always means more that way. But in my mind, a gift should always be practical. Something he can use often. He's the Martial Arts teacher... so... maybe a weapon? Something small but relevant to his interests?

[...not that Knuckles thought the guy deserved much. From her description, he seemed like kind of a tool. Oh well. It was her choice, not his. And he was here to help, after all.]

[She cringes, because that was pretty much her reaction to the whole desert thing. To be fair, she hasn't gone back, so she can't ultimately say that Byrne is right or wrong. It's on her list of things to investigate.]

A practical gift. It's a shame he already has a weapon. He's very particular.

[Nabooru mocks Byrne's gauntlet. She's never had one, though, so it may look a bit silly.]

A weapon is out of the question. I thought about just showing up at his door naked, but I think that'd make things worse, honestly. What if I give him one of my jewels?

[She taps at her forehead.]

He understands their significance. It's not as though I can so easily replace them or what they mean to me.

That seems a little... extreme. I mean, they ARE pretty signifigant and everything but... they're so uniquely YOURS. And who even knows if he'll appreciate it in the right way, you know? What about an item of clothing instead? I know he likes to wear a scarf over the lower half of his face - do you have something like that?

[He pauses.]

The first gift idea you had IS a good one. I dunno - I showed up at your door this evenin' just wearing gloves and shoes. How'd that work for you?

They are uniquely mine. I would like to give him something that comes from my heart.

[She rolls and turns over onto her stomach.]

It's the only way I know how to be sincere. I feel like he would understand. I feel like it would mean something.

[Then she pauses and stares at Knuckles.]

...Are you serious? I mean, yes. That's a surefire way to get his attention and I know he'd take me seriously, but really. Me, naked. I think if anyone saw that, their head would explode. We Gerudo were made the way we were for a reason, and that is to be the female army and have little trouble procreating to expand.

I'm not sure he'd... I mean. Yes, he'd probably appreciate it, but...

[Her head tips and she raises her arms to settle her chin on them.]

Would any man have the self control not to do anything to me if they saw me naked?

Actually I -WAS- kidding. I'm getting better at this straight face thing, huh?

[He finally smiled at her.]

As great of a gift as that would be, I think it might send the wrong message. I know it's different for different cultures and races and species, but you should make him WORK to see you like that. He shouldn't just expect it because you're feelin' bad about something.

If you want to give him the jewel, then, go right ahead. I know I'd be pretty damn touched if it were me. I guess I'm just a worrywart, haha! He better appreciate it.

[And if he doesn;t, then Knuckles is going to 'Spar' the living crap out of his poor Martial Arts professor.]

[She's nothing short of relieved to hear him.]

That's how I feel, too. I wouldn't ever actually do something like that, because of how my perspective is on it. Logically, any guy would appreciate it. But that's not me. I couldn't do it so seriously without wanting to flee.

[Then she looks back over to Knuckles. Oh. All of this talk about her naked must be hitting a soft point. She's blushing, ever so slightly, which is very rare for her.]

Which one do you think I should give him? He wears his hair up. If I give him my hairpiece, he'd at least be able to use it.

That sounds like a good idea - and make sure to tell him that reasoning behind it so he knows you put that little extra thought into it. That's important.

[He scratched his nose and looked at her a little more closely.]

So. What about Shinon? You mentioned him to me not long ago, and now that he's back and you guys have caught up and stuff... well. Where do you stand with him?

[She nods slowly. Then she sits up and turns to face him as she scoots to the foot of her bed.]

And that's part of the reason I have to apologise to Byrne. Shinon and I... It's a complicated situation. We're close, always have been. Yes, Shinon and I have spent a lot of time together. He taught me how to better my archery. We've gone drinking together at least twice. I think of him closely and I...

[There's hesitation in her features.]

I don't know what I am to him. I've never known what I was. Does he care about me? Maybe. Am I fun to play with? Probably. Shinon and I have never talked about that and I highly doubt he really wants to, but at the very least I know he enjoys having me as company.

[Then she laughs and gestures absentmindedly.]

Convoluted, right? I can't tie myself down. I can't do it until it's someone who I know is going to stay around. I can't invest my heart into either of them without knowing that it's not going to utterly destroy me. But I don't have an intimate relationship with either of them, so it's not like it's some stupid competition thing.

[But then she's never had an intimate relationship with anyone. At least not physically.]

....well, guys can be pretty good at turning almost ANYTHING into a stupid competition. I'd be careful about that. I think that's one thing common to all species. We love to fight over stuff and prove ourselves most deserving of whatever it is.

[He crossed his arms.]

But you don't owe either of them anything, have no formal commitment so... you can spend time with either or both and if one has a problem with it... well. It's their issue. It's up to THEM to be straight with you and say 'Yes, I want you in my life as more than this.' or 'No, I'm not interested in that way so let's just be pals.' It ain't up to YOU to figure that out. You're not Psychic.

[And for a moment, Nabooru thinks it'd be the greatest confidence and ego booster to have two men fighting over her. Then she promptly squishes that thought, because that is a horrible thing to think about.

She scrunches up her face and shifts a little, still idly childish.]

Hrm. Well, of course I want to spend time with the both of them. They're actually very similar to one another. I think they'd actually hit it off or at least be able to let off some steam together. I've been meaning to get people together and head on to the tavern in the town. I could take Byrne and Shinon with me.

Nothing works as well as a night out on the town, you know. But yeah, you're right. I'm really relieved to hear you say that. I'd like to not have to worry about what either one of them wants out of me. I mean, unless they say it straight to me.

"Hey, Nabs, I want your delicious body."

[She grins.]

I imagine that's how it'll go.

"Hey Nabs, I want your delicious body" eh? Is that the kind of pickup line that would actually work? My best guess woulda been that would earn a guy the business end of your sword. Or at least a long, silent glare.

[He chuckled.]

Taking them out together could be fun, unless they DO decide to turn it into a competition. Best to have other folks with you as well so they don't feel so inclined to act up.

I'm kidding.

[She stuck her tongue out at him. Then she shook her head slowly.]

Oh, jeez. It wouldn't just be Byrne, Shinon, and me. I don't see that going well at all. I dropped the idea of having a drinking night over the network about a month ago. So I think I'll be putting that together.

You should come.

Sure. Why not? That way if either of 'em get too rowdy, I can keep them in line. Haha!

[She cocked an eyebrow at him and snorted.]

Right. Of course. I'm sure they'll love that. I'll let you know when it is.

Do.

[He slipped down off the chair and walked over, giving her a gentle shove in the shoulder.]

OK! So, was that all the Manly Intuition you wanted to wring outta me?

[She nodded, even as he shoved her.]

Uh. Yeah. For now. I wouldn't be surprised if I end up needing more help on down the line. The Goddess knows I'm the kind to get myself in trouble.

[She paused.]

Sable said I should try doing some archery at night to see if it'll relax me, so I can sleep better. I think I'm going to start doing that.

Hey. You know any time you need any kinda help, you just gimme a call, alright? Doesn't matter what it is. You're my buddy. I got your back.

[He nodded.]

Archery might work, being that you don't wanna take me up on my generous weight room offer. You'd have to do it someplace with plenty of light - wouldn't want a stray arrow flying into someone's car or dog or window. But sure, I could see that working.

That's good to hear. One of these days, I might have nothing except friends. Better to have at least one I can trust at my back.

[Then she rose and stretched her arms over her head.]

As for the archery... I figured I'd just use the archery range. They ought to have some lighting in the area. I've only ever gone in the daytime, but the idea of shooting arrows sounds like it's both quieter than a sword and more enjoyable than lifting weights.

[She shook her head at Knuckles.]

I've got nothing against it, but lifting weights isn't my thing. I'd rather watch you do it.
