001 [video]

[The image at first points to the floor as it blinks to life, before swinging around to point at the wall. It’s then covered completely by a pale hand, which continues to manipulate the camera with no particular objective. Apparently, one of the fingers on said hand accidentally pressed the ‘on’ button on the camera, and the owner of that finger has no idea he’s turned it on.

Briefly, the image passes a stone-faced youth with killer sideburns and a slick hat, but almost immediately passes by to point at the other wall.]

Oooh, is it a camera? [A small, female voice chimes excitedly, and the image once again swings up to the youth’s face. The source of the previous voice is a tiny winged woman hovering just behind the young man’s shoulder, excitement painted on her face in contrast to the complete lack of emotion of the human’s.]

It’s too small to be a camera. [Which just gets a pout from the Pixie.]

Maybe that's what cameras look like in the future.

[Ignoring her, the young man studies the camera a bit more before speaking directly to it.]

I was informed that I can keep in contact with others with this... contraption. If anyone can indeed hear me, I am Raidou Kuzunoha the 14th. It's a pleasure to meet you. [His tone remains flat as he says the words, almost as if they were rehearsed. Though he would feel a bit silly if he was just talking to a box, he would trust the words of those who gave him the item. If all else failed, he could just sell the thing.]

[Hmm. A stoney-faced young man confused by future technology. Someone can relate.]

You've figured it out well enough. It's working.

[Jon seems completely unphased by the Pixie. He's seen weirder things, after all.]

[Were Raidou one to emote, he might actually appear surprised that the device was talking back to him. Instead, his expression remains as blank as ever.]

I see. [Pixie, on the other hand, is far too excited for her own good, and her face fills the screen as she hovers in front of it.]

Hey, you're my size! What are you doing in there?

This is a device called a computer and you're looking into what's known as a screen. It can make large things seem smaller... I can assure you I am much larger than you are in the flesh.

[His own face was fairly expressionless as he directed a question to Raidou.]

What year was it when you left whatever place you were last?

[Pixie screws up her face at the explanation. It's a bit too much for her to take in at once, so she just flutters back to behind Raidou's head.]

It was Taisho 20 in the Capital. [It didn't even occur to him that the Japanese system for numbering years might not make much sense to foreigners.]

Ahh. Right.

[A pause.]

I've no idea when that was. Do you know the year in European terms...? 1940? 1950? I AM Assuming you're from Earth?

[mcpimphat]

[Oh, right. Some quick head math later...]

1931. [Japan was in a transitional period, torn between tradition and modernization due to western influences. Most people still used the old system of numbering years.]

Blimey... the time you come from pre-dates my birth by about nine years and I'm considered a relic by some folk.

Hold on to your stylish wee hat there, chum. This is 2012. The computer you're using is one of the more common tools you'll find here, but it's not the most advanced.

[Raidou nods. The year, he knew about. That was one of the benefits of using the Arakana Corridor for time/dimension travel; you knew where you were going. Of course, it didn't make him an instant expert on anything from the time or place he traveled to, hence his trouble with technology... not that he was particularly good with technology even in his own time.]

I will ask someone for help with it.

Fair enough - I left my time in 1959 and even I've had trouble here and there adapting to things in this day and age.

[Oh! What a strange little creature that is hovering around him. Having not seen Yu use a Pixie, Naoto is not surprised about it, more so than thinking it is something else. The guy seems pretty professional as well.]

Greetings, and welcome to the school. I am Souji Seta and it is a pleasure to meet you as well.

[Her tone of voice is about as EXCITED as Raidou's.]

If I may so bold to ask, do you come from the past? I have heard of such incidents, with both faculty and students coming from the future as well.

[Honestly, Raidou is used to people being unable to see his demons, so he just assumes that she's invisible now as well. He's not quite aware that cameras will make them visible yet.

He nods at the greeting, considering her question. Well, he had traveled through the Arakana Corridor and jumped out here, so that would be a logical explanation.]

I came here from Taisho 20. [So there were others from different times here as well. That was worth looking into.]

Taisho. The era is considered the time of the liberal movement in Japan's history that lasted from 1912 to 1926.

[Naoto you are a huge nerd.]

I come from the current Heisei period. I did not think that I would ever meet someone that came directly from Japan's history, I must admit.

[She points towards Pixie]

Is she a Pokemon?

[She would say Persona, but her own Persona doesn't really talk that much.]

[mcpimphat]

[And yet she doesn't point out that the Taisho era only lasted 15 years. Of course, she wouldn't be the first to mention it to him, even if she had. The time tourists in the Arakana Corridor had been clear on that.

Pixie flutters around Raidou's ears, her own perking up at the question. What's a Pokémon? For his part, Raidou doesn't know what it is, either, but he just shakes his head in the negative.]

I'm a Pixie! [She titters, landing on the summoner's shoulder.] You can see me? That's so neat!

[thedetectiveprince]

[Naoto looks surprised at that statement.]

Is it? Why would I not be able to see you, exactly?

[mcpimphat]

Humans can't normally see us demons. Only summoners like Raidou-- [But alas, she was cut off by a flash of green as Raidou returned her to her tube. He doubted this 'Souji Seta' was the type to go telling everyone that he controlled demons, but it was still better to err on the side of caution.]

Don't mind her.

[thedetectiveprince]

[Actually she totally will mind.]

So you are a demon summoner.

[Pause, and then very carefully...]

Are these demons like Shadows, perhaps?

[mcpimphat]

[Raidou simply blinked, neither confirming her assumption nor denying it.]

I can't answer that, knowing nothing about 'Shadows.'

[thedetectiveprince]

I see. Perhaps I will explain them to you later, if you would like.

[Best conversations.]

[mcpimphat]

[Truly, they are the most riveting conversationalists in the world.

If shadows are anything like demons, and if there was a potential for them to cause trouble, it might be wise to hear what 'Souji' had to say. Though he originally came here simply to investigate the school, he was still obliged to meddle if demons (or any variant thereof) were involved.]

Hi, my name's Duster. I'm the music teacher here. Is that, uh, the thing next to you, uh... Who is she?

[Well, even if Raidou doesn't show his surprise, Pixie is certainly excited about this response, and flies up to the camera, blocking everything behind her.]

Oooh! Hello in there! You can see me? I'm Pixie! [Raidou just keeps his usual blank expression, gently brushing the tiny woman away from the screen.]

She is a demon.

A demon? ::he eyes the little thing carefully::

But aren't those evil?

[Good sir, you have offended the little fairy girl! She darts around Raidou's head, peeking out from behind his ear to blow a raspberry at the screen.]

That's mean! I'm not evil! I'm just a sweet little girl. [Debatable. Raidou thinks to himself, but doesn't voice it.]

'Demon,' is a catchall term for any manner of supernatural being. [He deadpans. No use trying to hide the existence of demons from someone who can apparently see them.]

Oh. Well. Demon usually has a negative feeling to it, at least how I am used to using the word.

There are a lot of people with supernatural powers at this school. You might make them angry if you call them a demon. No offense to the little fairy girl.

[Raidou makes a mental note of it, nodding once in affirmation. So, the other 'demonlike' beings shouldn't be referred to as such without being sure that's indeed what they are yet. He could do that.]

Thank you, I will keep that in mind.

[Pixie, meanwhile, has had her ADD kick in, so she's fluttered off to explore the room.]

[Video clicks on and there's a smiling angel boy on the other end.]

Hello Raidoukuzuno...huh the 14th! [Whew, long name!] It's a pleasure to meet you too! I'm Pit and I'm a student like you. How's moving in going for you?

[mcpimphat]

[Oh, it's an angel. Whelp, Raidou has seen lots of angels, but he doesn't quite recognize this variety. But an angel is an angel, right? He can deal with angels. Can he put it in a tube?]

It's been interesting. I haven't met who I'm going to share a room with, yet. [Considerably more talkative to nonhumans, this one.] I am still getting used to the technology of this era.

[pitticus]

Ohh! Haha, I was the same way. Computers sure are confusing sometimes...

What room are you in? I might know your roommate!

[mcpimphat]

[He'll have to ask what a 'computer' is later.]

[Pit taps his chin thoughtfully and looks to the ceiling briefly as he pends a reply.]

Ah... Oh no. Come to think of it, I don't... actually know who lives there after all. Hehe. Sorry! I guess you'll just have to meet him when you meet him! Hope you two get along great! It's nice having a roommate you like a lot.

[Was that a tinge of sadness against his happy demeanor? No, you're just imagining things! Pit is totally not sad about just losing his roommate of three years, nope!]

[Raidou nods. Regardless of who it is, he'd deal with it when the time came.

The young man might not emote much, but he's still rather perceptive, especially when it came to demons nonhuman entities, so that hint of sadness, however small, did not escape him.]

You dislike your current assignment?

[pitticus]

[He seems taken aback.] Huh? No no, not at all! Where'd you get that idea? I like my room.

[mcpimphat]

[Oh, then he'd guessed wrong.]

I'd assumed from your tone that you had a roommate you disliked. My apologies.

[pitticus]

[The direction of his eyes slant down so that he's not looking directly at the camera. Raidou wasn't wrong at all.]

No. I don't have a roommate. Not anymore, at least. He packed up his stuff and left today.

[mcpimphat]

[Ah, so it wasn't that he disliked his roommate, but rather that he no longer had a roommate at all.]

You miss him.

Yeah... It feels really off! Like I got so used to him being here that suddenly seeing all his stuff gone and that side of the room empty makes me sad.
