Goodness, I am terribly sorry, everyone. It appears as though my entry never made it to the network back when I first arrived. I thought it did... There's a chance I never got around to finishing it, though. It is no wonder I never received any notifications on the entry -- because it did not exist! Haha, how silly of me.

I have been at Smash Academy before (for approximately a year, in fact!) but I returned to Ilia to stay with my family for a while. I was not sure when I would return, so I withdrew from the school during late summer. But here I am, back again! Good old Canas, just the way he was before. That's my name, if we have never had the opportunity to meet... In fact, let this be something of a reintroduction and, perhaps, a new beginning. If this is the case, well... Hey there!

I have not been doing very well at keeping up with that New Year's resolution I made for myself... I told myself to do a better job at keeping track of things. Even though I returned during early October I have failed to keep up-to-date on this neat-o technology network. Maybe I'll skim a little, but let me know if there is something that needs my attention.

Oh, my trip back was quite nice. I spent some quality time with my dear wife and my son. My mother, well... She is a little reclusive, to put it one way. Unfortunately, that means I see her less often, but when the opportunity presents itself, by golly, you can be sure that I jump on it!

... What other way would you put it when you mean reclusive?

To have a wife and son sounds nice, although I wouldn't know what it feels like. [He doesn't really intend to procreate when and if he ever gets together with someone. ~~except he and riley did in the form of a pokemon egg already i mean what~~]

Maybe unpredictable... Or harsh. On the other hand, she is very intelligent and talented.

Oh, that is fine. Not many people here have children, nor are many of them married. I do not feel there is a way to describe the feeling of having a wife and son, though... It's like trying to describe the feeling of having a family...

Um, the best way to put this is... I am sure you are aware that sometimes, you meet with sour people in the world. It is not as though these bitter sorts of people are abhorred by everyone. My mother can be severe, yes, but she cares about me- of that, I am certain. She has always expected a lot out of me ever since I was young... I can only hope that I am meeting her expectations, or better yet... exceeding them. Just because a person is not kind to all they meet does not make them a bad person. Sometimes it just takes more effort to build a substantial relationship with them, but... I find it can be a little rewarding.

Well... My family is well known for being adept in the art of elder magic. My mother is a famous shaman, and she is the last person in all of Elibe who knows the language printed in dark tomes and is able to write it. She's amazing... And, as I am her son (well, one of four!), she wants me to follow in her footsteps. This talent runs in the family - if I am her son, I am sure to carry the same aura she has to attract the spirits, and... I do!

In a way, I suppose it is a boasting rite. In another way, she taught me so much so I could protect myself and sustain myself. Sure enough, it has done both for me, and I am forever grateful. If I continue to push myself, I can become even greater; maybe someday, I will make her proud.

You sound very gracious, yet you could be too gracious. Some parents can be manipulative with ulterior motives, and you may not be able to figure that out until it's too late.

Just ensure that your magic is only used for good. Now... what is your 'elder magic' capable of? [He's curious, especially by how they're 'dark tomes'.]

Manipulative? Is that what you think she may be? Allow me to assure you that I know my mother well enough to safely call her harmless in that field. I suppose you would have to meet her to know...

And to satisfy your curiosity, elder magic is a sort of magic (the other two types being anima and light magic) that uses darkness as its power. Its strength is determined by the willingness of the user to invite the darkness into their person as well as their quest for further knowledge. There are not many users of elder magic... and for good reason, too. Dark magic can be a risky item to wield, and it takes great strength to overcome the temptation to submit to its force.

You can never be too sure. Some parents can conceal their motives very well by sugarcoating things. [He refuses to believe Niime is okay until he meets her one day. 8|]

Now, your magic. You seem full-aware of the risks. What do you do when you feel the temptation? Succumbing to that would surely plague not only you, but everyone around you.

You are right. There are plenty of instances where parents are not as caring as they seem. But there are also many, many loving families out there, and I would even bargain that there are more families like that than there are unstable ones. But I will not argue with you, since I agree. It comes down to the state of humanity - we all know there are individuals who have ill will, and sometimes... They end up as parents as well.

I have seen what happens to those who succumb to the force of dark magic, yes. It leaves you an existence of mindlessness... You merely exist. It is a difficult balance I must push my limits a little but know those limits as well. I have slipped just a little once before, and it is not something I wish to do again. In the end, if you are able to master dark magic, it is a rewarding experience.

Those are wise words. Remaining aware of your abilities and relationships is important... and sometimes, I do forget to remind myself of the dangers in both fields. People can be deceptive, and my magic can do me extreme harm. It's not something to take lightly.
