[Video] - Cupidbot Aftermath

I should like to say that I, personally, am quite relieved to have not fallen in love with a cow this year. Mind you, there is nothing wrong with a tender steak dinner. Simply that a line ought to be drawn between loving animals and... well.

[Soryk pauses.]

Loving animals.

[With a flick of his wrist, he continues.]

On a related subject, after a good deal of thought, I have decided it is far past the time in which I should like some information on the creatures we refer to as 'Pokémon.' Their properties, naturally, and other such traits.

[Someone's poisoning extravaganza didn't go quite the way he planned.] For instance, what allows a Pokémon to die and yet, miraculously return from the dead? Eating habits. Life cycles. And so on.

I always thought they were merely animals with a higher intelligence than that of a house pet, yet it seems there is something more to them. If you are a Pokémon, share with me some about yourself. If you have a Pokémon, tell me about your companion. I would very much appreciate it.

[The face on the screen is a people Bulba, but that icon is definitely the kind of face he's making.]

Thanks for noticing the whole intelligence thing.

Insulting us and acknowledging that in the same breath miiiight make some of us less inclined to tell you much, just saying.

There's a lot to learn in regards to Pokémon. The Library is a very good resource for the basics. And considering how few of them might enjoy being compared to house pets, you might find that to be one of very few ports of call in your hunt for knowledge.

I somewhat understand. I, like you, come from a world where Pokémon aren't native. I am, however, gifted with a little more natural insight considering my heritage. Comparisons of that nature, even if you admit they're mistaken and outdated, may cause you more trouble than clarifying your position is worth. That's not intended as a reprimand. Simply explaining.

I'm a licensed trainer, at any rate. I've a Charizard and a Vaporeon as my partners. I also have the ability to speak with Pokémon - and other creatures besides - in something resembling their own tongue. If you've any specific questions, I'll do what I can to answer them.

Aye. It's essentially one tongue with different aspects. Where the ear hears variations on their species names, or roars or squeaks, each can understand the other perfectly. Onix to Zubat to Oddish to Trubbish. I've yet to meet an exception. The speed at which they speak can make communication tricky in some regards - Slowpoke, for example, speak as they do everything else. At an extremely sedate pace. By contrast, an Electrike may not wish to spend the time it takes for the Slowpoke to say its piece. In such instances, communication can be hampered, but there is no actual language barrier that I've ever encountered.

I believe, and someone may correct me in this instance if the conclusions I've drawn are divorced from the fact of the matter, that it's partially the technology. The TM, or Technical Machine, that is used by most Pokémon students to become Human comes equipped with the language. TMs are used generally to learn moves as a Pokémon that they might not normally know. Thunderpunch on a Charizard for example, or Bulldoze for a Venusaur. It implants data directly into the Pokémon's brain to allow for practical application of these techniques and I believe it does the same for language. The other part of it is that most Pokémon - especially those who've grown up around Humans - have an understanding of the language already. They just lack the physical ability to reproduce the words. This, of course, isn't the case for Psychics and Ghosts, who can communicate in our tongue even without human vocal chords. In some cases, at least.

I'm the Martial Arts teacher. Jon Talbain.

And I'm happy to have been of service - I understood nothing about them until I took it upon myself to learn, and there's a lot to be gained by passing along that knowledge to interested parties. A little understanding goes a long way, after all.

[House pets aren't dumb. That's hurtful to imply.]

Um. Hello. I'm Chiyo, a Vaporeon. As a Pokemon, I have water properties and my composition allows me to melt into water as needed.

[A pause as she isn't sure what else to share and if she should.]

...I'm not sure if I can answer all your questions, but I'll try. Is there something in particular you'd like to know?

Pokemon don't seem to be the only things capable of coming back from the dead, especially here.

Or do you mean ghost types? [He's studied!!]

Well, perfectly normal human beings who should be dead where they came from are very much alive here, is all.

[HA HA, BUT ENOUGH OF THAT, HOW ABOUT THAT OTHER TOPIC.]

But as for ghost type Pokemon--! They seem to be a topic of serious interest debate in the field of Pokemon research, from what I've read! They can be lay eggs that hatch into other ghost types, yet they can also be the 'afterlife' stage of what was formerly a different kind of Pokemon entirely! Something like that is incredibly strange, if you ask me!

[personal profile] forgetbeam 2015-02-23 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
That's exactly what's so strange about it! None of the debates I've read in to seem to come to any conclusion about what this means, either...!

[And now it's bugging him ALL OVER AGAIN.]

[Somehow hearing Pokemon being referred to as an animal gets Mona's blood boiling. Considering her roommate is a Pokemon in question, she isn't going to sit quietly on the network and let this jerk call them stupid. Mona certainly doesn't think Chiyo is a simple minded animal, or an animal at all!]

How dare you compare those cute monsters to having the intelligence of a house pet!

Yeah, you did think wrong. How could you compare a Pokemon like that when they can transform into a human form? I'll admit, I'm not the smartest tool in the shed, but even on my first day of meeting a Pokemon I knew they weren't stupid.
