[It had been a little while since she'd gone. She'd told him she had 'stuff' she had to do and he had accepted that, while privately acknowledging how much he'd miss her. Still, he'd said goodbye with a grin and a hug and lots of 'Good luck!' and 'Dress warm!' and other things you said to a dear, dear friend when they were headed off to do things.

However, today he just happened to notice that her name appeared as Active in the student registry. He was excited.

Maybe that was an understatement.

He put on a nice clean shirt and tried to comb his hair into something like a normal person's hair style and spent a good thirty seconds clearing his throat before starting the video feed.]

Hi! Welcome back! I just wanted to say... uh. Hi! And welcome back! And that I hope your trip was nice and you got to do the things you wanted to do and enjoyed your trip.

If you wanted to meet up and do something that would be great! I mean... once you're settled in again and aren't tired from your trip and stuff. Or if you just want to talk on video or text or something that's fine too! Whatever you like!

[Sonny. You're waffling. Bring it on home and stick to the point.]

Um. It's great that your back and I'm looking forward to hearing from you! Bye!

[A little wave and then the feed is off.]

[Listen to him, getting so enthused over simply taking notice of her. What is it that people are thinking whenever they fall in love? Voile's never had an answer for that and even after being welcomed back so sweetly, knowing that Sonny likely never let a day pass without thinking of her, she still doesn't seem able to answer it.

But it doesn't change the fact that it is the sweetest of the sweet. A pleasant surprise to return to. Smash Academy may not be home and she may not necessarily know where home is, but sometimes the people at the academy begin to make her think she might just be on the pathway to discovering where things begin and end.

Cradling her chin in the palm of her hand, she eyes him closely with a subtle smile, something a little more subdued for her nature, but still characteristically gentle.]

Do you often check the student registry, Sonny?

[He hadn't been expecting the question, and it showed in the sheepishness of his grin and the light flush to his cheeks.

So, OK, he'd been checking it most days since she'd gone. Because she hadn't said when she'd be back. And he didn't want to miss the opportunity to welcome her when she did return. Was that weird? He wasn't entirely sure.]

Sometimes!

['Sometimes,' he said, which Voile interpreted to mean 'only for you.' For Sonny had developed a habit of doing things only for her. Again, a side-effect of love, to be in it, to experience it, to have a heart that sung of it. Voile, herself, was not immune to the whole scenario herself, but she tried to put a lid on things.]

I see.

[After a pause, she sat up a little better.]

Well. I could certainly be convinced to do something with you. It doesn't have to be anything large or detailed. Some catch up time, I guess. You can tell me about things here, what you've been doing. I'd like that very much.

OK! I have a lot of stuff to tell you, really - it's been busy here!

Where would you like to go? If you're hungry, we could go to the cafeteria? Or if you're not we could go for a walk to the greenhouse or something?

I'm not especially hungry, but I know how you can eat, so if you are, then we can get you some food. I would like to go to the greenhouse, however, and water the plants, if that's all right.

It's OK! I can eat something quickly before we meet and that way we can get to watering the plants quicker. I'll help you!

...I'm really happy you're back! I'd like to hear about your time away too, if it's stuff you want to share!

There is no need to rush. I don't intend on wandering off anywhere else for some time, if I can help it. I'll tell you as much as you'd like to hear, nothing more and nothing less.

It won't take me long. I've already had a good breakfast plus I have some stuff in my dorm I baked. I'll save you some! It's still nice and fresh!

I want to hear everything you want to tell! But I bet you could of guessed that, huh? I'll see you at the Greenhouse soon. What do you think - a half hour or so? Or later! It's up to you.

[He's excited. Can you tell he's excited? Because he is excited. Just in case you couldn't tell.]

A half hour sounds like it would be fine. Remember what I said before. There is no rush, Sonny.

[As usual, Sonny is enthusiastic to a fault in the eyes of some and Voile is the calm and composed sort.]

[Sonny is just enthusiastic about life in general. She, however, lands him in a particularly enthused sort of mood.]

OK! I'll see you then and there!

[And so, he's off, gathering some of the cheese and chive scones he made onto a nice little plate and wrapping it for her. He knows she doesn't eat a great deal, but gives her plenty anyway just so she has the option of eating a great deal if she decides to do that. Or maybe she'd like to share with her room mate.

And then he showed up prettymuch right on time!]

[She made him wait just long enough to whet his appetite. Something about how absence made the heart grow fonder. And she could get behind that. She left him, well aware of his sentiments, and in question of her own feelings. Not that she didn't how she felt. Just that it was difficult to dive into with all things considered.

But still she met him, a prima dona to the maximum, just as she'd become shortly before they reunited. When she caught an eye of him, however, she broke that mold just long enough to wave him down.]

Sonny, hello!

Hey! Hi!

[The grin on his face threatened to split his earlobes.

He walked over, hands full of the scone plate he was gifting her.]

I missed you! It's so great to see you!

[That was a lot of scones, honestly. And she knew they couldn't have been all for her. Impossible. Or maybe they were. Sonny had a tendency to be rather... generous in respects of the sort.]

I never leave for too long, do I? I guess it was longer than I was expecting, though. It's wonderful to see you, too.

No! Not too long. But still, I was starting to wonder a little bit!

[Hey, he'd taken a trip that was meant to be a week and wound up missing out on a year. It wasn't an unfounded worry!]

I hope you like the scones. They're a new recipe I tried out after spending a few days just eating apple pie only. Because we were invaded by apple pie monsters, and I had to save the school Nurse!

[See? He'd told you he'd been busy!]

Shall we go water the plants?

Oh, you made them yourself...

[Just like the cupcakes he'd made her for Valentine's Day. She hadn't forgotten and they hadn't lasted long. Cammy had still been there at the time, too. She came back and Cammy was suddenly gone. 'Suddenly.' It made things a little lonelier. Sort of.]

I'm sure they're great, in that case. I'm beginning to like this side of you. But I'm afraid of you overeating if you bake for yourself, too.

[All the same, she offered him a nod.] At any rate, let's go water the plants.

I've been learning how to bake all kinds of things. This one guy called Delta and me, we even came up with a new recipe for a curry cake. It was... well, it was OK!

[He'd liked it. But he liked everything.]

But don't forget that Snorlaxes really can't overeat, OK? So don't worry too much!

[He started toward the greenhouse and opened the door for her.]

Curry cake. That sounds... odd, at the very least. But not entirely bad. What I know of baking and cooking that combining savoury and sweet makes for some interesting dishes. I look forward to trying what more you and this Delta are putting together.

[In other words, she was quite content enough to be a guinea pig. And as such, one scone wasn't going to hurt. As she tucked herself under his arm to go inside, she flashed him a smile over her left shoulder.]

[She smiled at him. And his heart melted all over again.]

OK! Next time I try an experiment like that, I'll save you some! If I think it's any good. I wouldn't want to give you anything gross.

[Sorry, Voile. No mud pies for you.]

So, how was your trip and stuff? Did you do everything you needed or wanted to do?

You should just let me experiment for you. I trust that you wouldn't poison me or anything like that. I'm sure of it.

[And she was. Sonny would never let any harm come to her. His question made her pause and she gave a nod.]

I think I took care of things. For now. A little of my time was to see Phoenix off. I went to Lilycove to see Delian and Alcin, though. [And almost stayed there for them, too, but she wasn't about to say so.] But now I am here. You didn't miss me too much, did you?

How's Alcin doing? I was sad when he left. I thought we could of been pretty good friends. He seemed nice. Next time you talk to him, tell him I said Hello, OK?

[He thought about how to answer her question. Of course he had missed her. A lot. But he didn't want to make her feel bad for going, or feel like she had to tailor her plans to his feelings. That wasn't right. He continued to smile.]

I did miss you, but I found plenty of other things to do. Keep my time nice and full when I wasn't eating or sleeping. It's been a little tricky I guess, because I'm the last member of my team here, now!

[She'd want to know about that. She and Vinnie were also close, he knew. And Marie, of course.]

Alcin seemed... fine when I saw him. I'm a little surprised to hear that you missed him, but then that sounds just like you to say something of the sort. I'll write him and let him know. I'm sure he'd appreciate a letter or two. Maybe you should write him also.

[She nodded slowly as she listened, trying to carry everything as carefully as she could muster.]

Oh... So the others left while I was gone. Well. Marie was gone before I was. It's a shame Vinnie left. I'll miss him a great deal. We'll just have to visit him at some point.

I guess I could write him a letter. That would be fun! Hopefully he wouldn't think it was weird. We only talked a couple of times and had lunch once. But I liked him.

[He nodded. That's right, Marie had left before Voile had gone on her excursion.]

He's doing volunteer work at the Safari zone in Kanto. I'm sure he'd like it if we visited! Maybe after school is out for the summer? Finals week is coming up. Then graduation and.. Um. Prom, too.

That's a good idea. I'd like to see him when we have the time to do so. I feel like I owe at least that. I should have been here when he was gone.

[Although she couldn't have known.

She shifted to set the platter down carefully and rested a hand to her waist.]

Prom already? I feel like it just came, but I bet that's because of how long I was gone.

I'd like to go and see him too! I like the city the Safari Zone is in. It's really nice there and not too far from the beach! The gym is tough.

[Ah, memories.]

I know! It did kind of come around quickly, didn't it?

[He'd sat out Prom last year. He'd just gotten back and things were sort of awkward in general so... Not this year though! Well, maybe not.]

I'm looking forward to it!

[She couldn't say anything about the Safari Zone or gyms in particular, if only because she had no knowledge of either location. Consequently, she didn't address either, but she did file away the information he was giving her for the sake of having it. One never knew when it'd come in handy.]

That, I guess it did. I'm betting the whole school is in an uproar about it. Or will be soon enough. Who can blame them?

[Don't worry Voile, you could totally sweep the Fuchsia Gym with your Psychic type abilities. Sonny would totally be your cheerleader.]

I'm not sure! I haven't heard too much about it just yet from other students. Maybe a little closer to it.

[He paused, trying within his head to figure out a classy and suave way to ask the question he wanted to ask.]

So! Um! So! I was sort of thinking that maybe I... Maybe, if you'd like to go to the Prom? Uhm. What... that means. Is. I would like to ask you to go to the Prom with me? Maybe as my date? Actually, definitely as my date? If you want to?

[Perfect. Nailed it. Succinct and to the point and masterful. Truly, you are a wordsmith beyond compare, Sonny.]

[Classy and suave, was it? Certainly wasn't how he painted himself, but it could have gone a lot bumpier. At least he only tripped on his tongue a few times.

His question made her pause in the midst of reaching for one of the many watering cans available to visitors. For many moments, she simply eyed him over her shoulder. The year prior, she had gone to the prom with Marie. How many proms had she been to? Three? Four? Hard to say.

She always remembered her first one, though.]

Yes. If you'd like for me to. [She gave him a nod, thinking it wiser not to take too long to try thinking it over. Excessive thinking led to mistakes.]

Really!?

[He sounded just a little surprised. Mostly happy. But a little surprised. Even he couldn't have put his finger on why a portion of his heart had been reluctant to ask for fear of her saying No. It wasn't anything he could really define. Just anxiety. Silly anxiety.]

I wouldn't like that, I'd LOVE it!

[That excitement again. She was becoming more subdued than he was. When did that start to happen? She can't even say.

There was something welcoming about his enthusiasm, however.]

Somehow that doesn't surprise me.

I didn't think it would.

[She knew him pretty well, after all.]

I'll get a nice suit and learn to dance and everything!

We don't have to dance.

[Water can in hand, Voile tapped her chin with some thought.]

I normally don't, honestly.

[Sonny picked up his own watering can.]

I'd like to! But only if you would want to. I think it would be nice? But only if you want to!

We can if you'd like to. I don't mind. We should dance if you want to dance.

I would LOVE to dance with you!

[His eyes are shining. He is so excited. Like he literally can't wait. He'd probably dance with you in the greenhouse if it was suggested and they could find somewhere with space enough not to do irreparable damage to people's precious plants.]

[The tone of his voice was serious enough. Voile knew not to question and while she wasn't completely on the same level that he was, she wasn't particularly lacking in looking forward to it either. So she smiled as she leaned over to pay some special attention to her gracideas.]

So it would seem. You've never danced before, Sonny? Not at any of the dances the academy has had?

Not proper dancing. Me and Marie would listen to music and sometimes I'd dance to that. But it's not proper... You know. 'One two three, one two three, turn, point, turn, one two three' kind of dancing.

[Where had he even picked that up? He stuck his hand out and moved side to side as he said it, imitating what he thought a waltz might look like if he weren't standing in one place, holding a watering can roughly where his partner's hip might be and trying not to bruise people's petunias.]

Waltzing. You mean waltzing, Sonny.

[But she was smiling because trying to picture him and Marie dancing was almost impossible. Marie never seemed the sort who would dance. At least not so nonchalantly.]

So what kind of dancing did you two do?

Dancing to Justin Beiver! So... you know. Just regular dancing.

[He sort of... wiggled in place and waggled his arms and did the Oppa Gangnam Style horse riding bit.]

You know. Regular dancing.

[MTV what hath though wrought?]

[Regular dancing. She didn't even know how that was supposed to be defined and after many moments, she simply started laughing.]

Whatever you say. I'm not sure that's 'regular dancing,' but I don't think such a thing exists.

Maybe it doesn't. I don't know. But I'll learn proper dancing before the Prom. Prom-Ise!

[See what he did, there?

He got the hose and started filling up their watering cans.]

So! Did you do anything fun on your trip?

Anything fun? Mm. Well, aside from seeing Alcin and the others, I don't think there was much.

[She exchanged the cycle of wringing her hands together and unweaving them, only to repeat it a few times while she waited for her can to fill. And once it had, she slowly made her way to the line of gracideas and blue bells.]

I gave a proper goodbye to Professor Wright and promised I would come back and visit him frequently. I miss him, though. Did you do anything else while I was away?

[Sonny handed her the watering can and started filling up his own.]

I did TONS of stuff! Well, I already told you about saving Rhys from the Apple Pie Golems. I played more Ukulele, I know a couple of songs pretty well! Jolt and me bought like... a hundred pounds of super cheap candy and spent the afternoon eating it outside and then we made amazing cheeseburgers! I got poisoned by accidentally eating evil little purple bugs and Max had to take me to the Pokémon Center to get my stomach pumped. That was no fun! Then I was studying for my finals because this year I graduate!

[He was ticking each of these things off on his fingers until he realized his watering can was about to overflow.]

Tons of stuff!

You mean Jolt was eating something other than bacon? He took me out for bubble tea once and the only thing I remember him being real into was bacon.

[Which wasn't a bad thing. If anything, Voile thought it was a bit cute and Jolt's company was good when she was going through a rather rough time. Or one of those rough times because she had a way of seeing a few of them.]

You sure have been busy, though. Out of curiosity, how to accidentally eat a bug? Were you just... shoveling food into your mouth or something?

He eats lots of things that aren't bacon! That's just one of his favorite things. We put a LOT of bacon on our cheese burgers. But he likes gummy bears, Cadbury eggs, marshmallow peeps, candy corn. I don't think he told me any candies he didn't want to eat.

[Here we go, Sonny is watering plants! Drink up, little plants. He knows pretty well how to do this, considering the times he looked after Vinnie's potted rainforest.]

I should say I drank them. I was making my morning cocoa and I guess they got into my kettle. I was half asleep because it was in the morning and so when I poured hot water into my cup and it was all purple, I just thought 'grape flavored' and drank the cocoa. But it was actually bugs and they weren't very nice tasting at all. I got pretty sick!
