Well, the contest was... just what a contest sounds like. A friendly competition in which all participants get prizes and trophies. It's a way to boost self confidence, get together, have food, and be social. Probably not good for someone who doesn't like that sort of thing.

And the Host Club was something akin to it. Without the competition. Like a cafe with hosts and servers. Usually it followed a theme, depending on the time of the year. That's a little bit more of a relaxing atmosphere, in my opinion.
