.o4. Text (Backdated to day after Prom)

A Chiyo laid herself to sleep the night after prom, she expected that the world she would wake up to would be glorious and a dream-like fantasy where beautiful plants and flowers would blossom out of nowhere and the air would be decorated with bubbles and sparkles.

The reality she woke up to was a far cry from that.

The first indication of her expectations being betrayed came from the unwelcome greeting of an overwhelming exhaustion in her mind and body. That was strange. Though she stayed out a little later than usual for prom, Chiyo certainly made sure that she would have enough rest when she retired. Second was the unbearable aches in her legs when she readjusted herself in bed. This was also strange. She couldn't imagine why they would be aching as they did. And lastly, the strangest and horrifying of them all, as she tried to groan in pain, she found she had no voice. Not a single utterance of sound could be produced from her vocal cords.

Why? Why was this happening to her? She suddenly took in a sharp intake of breath, brows crinkling in fear of what she believed had happened to her.

I'm cursed, aren't I? I'm really cursed. Her hand automatically went up to her throat and the panic began to set in. Her eyes immediately landed upon the intricate tin of candies sitting on her bedside table.

It's because I've indulged in too much of the magical, isn't it? And now this is the price that I have to pay. After all, all magic comes with a price, and this must be the price.

Chiyo found that she had wanted to say something - a natural instinct for anyone - but when no voice would meet her demands, her heart sunk further into a spiral downwards into despair. Seth hadn't said anything about this at the hospital, she recalled. He only mentioned that she'd feel good, and not as horrible as this once the magical effects wore away. Before she knew it, she had begun hyperventilating. And soon she would be sobbing.

No, I don't want this. I can't deal with this. Is it too much to ask for to be carefree? To live so happily without worries? I just wanted to be happy. WHY CAN'T I BE HAPPY?

A crinkle resounded in the air. Candy. She needed more candy. Her fingers shook as she unraveled another ominously gleaming drop of yellow. In the back of her mind, it made no sense. These candies caused her her current suffering, but she just still wanted more. And at this point, she knew that they would be the only source of bringing back her happiness and fantasy-like world.

If it's... if it's just this much, then maybe I can deal with it. Teacher Caim is mute and he's fine. A-And the pain.... w... well, I've always had to deal with pain for years before Smash came into my life. I'll be fine. I just need this candy.

She threw in that piece of candy into her mouth so fast, it looked as if she had been hungry for years. She was so impatient with it, she practically chomped down on it, breaking it into bits with her teeth to swallow it so that it could get into her system faster. And then... the agonizing wait. She sunk down into her bed, gripping her sheets, and finally... relaxed. An eerie grin grew on her face and an even eerier soundless giggle vibrated in her chest. The pricey magic had begun taking its effects and melted away her stress and replaced this dreary world with her world of glitter.

Oh, if only she had been more logical, more reasonable, she would have realized she was simply hungover and sore from dancing and running around in low heels and a big poofy dress all night long. Though, she was indeed lightly cursed with a loss of speech from a drunken dark mage.

Hello, everyone~ How are you today? Prom was lovely, wasn't it? I had an amazing time with everyone, getting to know them and dance with them. Thank you for all the fun. I'll never forget it.

Though, now... it seems that I can't speak? I don't recall doing anything to damage my voice, so I'm feeling a bit lost on what to do. But! On a random note, I do feel a bit more like Ariel~ She also lost her voice when she became human. Maybe it was just something meant to happen? She did eventually get her voice back, but only after defeating the white haired, purple and black octopus witch, Ursula. That probably wouldn't happen here with me, but it's still an interesting thing to think about.

In any case, I just wanted to let people know that. Oh! And don't worry too much about me, too. I'll be fine. It'll take time to get used to, but I'll be okay. Also, I'll be carrying a notebook and pencil to use to communicate with, so please don't misunderstand me when I write my words down instead of speak them. :)

Mmm, no, certainly not as bad as it could be.

[He smiles pleasantly.]

Might be a side effect of you-know-what.

[Those sweet things he knows you like to eat that he provides that costs money you know those things wink wink.]
